Doolittle - The Last Corrupt Republican Left Standing?

Rep. John Doolittle, the conservative California congressman who has been the focus of a widening corruption probe, has received just lukewarm support from fellow Republicans as he prepares to run for re-election.

“The only thing we know for certain is Doolittle is in trouble. The party leadership does not want to spend a huge sum of money to hold onto this seat,” Allan Hoffenblum, a GOP strategist and publisher of the nonpartisan Target Book that tracks political races, told the Associated Press He added,

“It's almost Doolittle versus the world.”Doolittle, who represents a swath of Northern California, is believed to be the only sitting member of Congress to be under active investigation for his strong ties to former GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, now in prison on an array of fraud and conspiracy charges related to his work on behalf of his Native American tribe clients.Abramoff, who was a Doolittle campaign contributor, allowed Doolittle the use of a luxury sports box that he paid for, which the congressman did not initially report. More than that, federal investigators have been puzzled by monthly payments of nearly $5,000 that Abramoff's firm made to Doolittle's wife by way of her company, Sierra Dominion Financial Solutions Inc.Adding to Doolittle's political troubles, two of his congressional aides have been called to testify before a federal grand jury probing their boss. Doolittle, serving in his ninth term, has denied any wrongdoing. He has repeated he has no plans to relinquish the House seat he has held since 1991.“There is just too much dirt around Doolittle to think that he is going to survive,” said Bob Mulholland, a senior campaign adviser for the California Democratic Party, in an earlier interview.“Doolittle, of all the Republican incumbents, is in the worst shape,” Mulholland said from his Sacramento office.

In April, Doolittle's Okton, Va. home was searched by the FBI. A day after the search was revealed by the press, Doolittle relinquished his seat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which oversees federal spending requests.

What One Must Believe to be a Republican

To be a Republican you need to believe:

1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's Daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

5. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational drug corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMO's and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record or his National Guard service record is none of our business.

14. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15. Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity.)

16. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960's is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80's is irrelevant.

17. Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

18. Inability to tell up from down.

The Europeans Have the Final Solution to the Republicans' Mexican Problem

When author, pacifist and social critic Victor Hugo proposed in 1870 that the nations of Europe form a union based on principles of free commerce, peace and universal justice, the idea was ridiculed as naive, preposterous and economically undesirable. Now we have a healthy and growing European Union with the world's most vigorous currency.

Customs and passport checkpoints have been abolished at most national borders, resulting in a peaceful and free democratic zone for travel, work and investment. There are 20 official European languages spoken by a total of 460,000,000 souls, roughly the population of North America.

Of course, the EU is not paradise, but that isn't my point. If you (like the critics of Victor Hugo) think an American Hemisphere without borders is utopian, consider the problems of the border policy we are now planning; a 2000-mile wall with armed guards, an ultra-militarized barbed-wire border zone, and a ghettoized Mexican labor force who are potential criminals anywhere north of the border.

This system is a throwback to an age of runaway slaves or Jewish escapees. It is impractical. It is immoral. It is expensive and unsustainable. Mexicans arrive in our country - legally or not - as economic refugees looking for work, organically following the job market as it moves north. They are here because corporate US employers have put up several million Help Wanted signs and because NAFTA devoured any job opportunities they once had back home.

Open borders seem to work for Europe. Why not for America?

Are There No Normal Republican Perverts Left to Run for President?

Rudy expensed Hamptons trips coinciding with his affair with Southampton resident Judith Nathan...In Hamptons every weekend leading up to 9/11... I'm shocked, SHOCKED, ... My God! Is there any Republican politician out there who is NOT a crook and who just has normal sexual relationships with many kinds of people? Anyone at all? No weird menage-a-trios trysts at an apartment overlooking the smoldering ruins of New York's ground zero, and no billing your secret mayoral booty calls in the Hamptons to the budgets of city agencies tasked with helping poor and crippled people? No gay airport bathroom propositions? No asking underage congressional pages to text you their penis size? No visits to prostitutes in multiple states to have your diapers changed? No divorcing your cancer-stricken, hospitalized wife to carry on an ongoing affair in good conscience? No meth-addicted gay sex while preaching about the abominations of drugs and gays? No calling your subordinate at night while you masturbate with a dildo up your wazoo and tell her how you'd like to loofah her in the shower? No shoving pictures of mangled fetuses in strangers' faces? No raping your own daughters while using the Heavenly Father to rationalize the incest? No more pontificating about the dangers of man-on-dog sex? Oh, and while I'm at it - I'm fed up with my tax dollars paying off Giuliani's Viagra bills, too. But only Rudy fits the Republican fiend prototype of his party's candidate for the persidency.

On Churchill

Churchill’s immortal tribute to the Royal Air Force,“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”can be paraphrased with great shame to describe the Dubya administration:Never in the field of human conflict were so many lies told to so many by so few.

Churchill also wrote, “This is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”

Bush's Reverse Midas Touch

Bush’s attack on our country is unparalleled. He lies repeatedly. He has weakened our civil liberties, privatized government services, ignored global warming, politicized all branches of government while upsetting the balance of powers, and weakened our military by hiring over 176 mercenary companies that compete alongside our soldiers with no government oversight and much higher pay.

He has ruined the lives of people nearest to him by forcing them to lie publicly for him. He is a psychopath incapable of ever admitting he is wrong, and he is never right.

Most devastatingly, he has turned the US into a rogue regime running rampant over other sovereign nations, making the US the most loathed country on earth. His lack of government regulation has created the home loan meltdown and unbridled contractor corruption in Iraq. He has deliberately and repeatedly appointed incompetents to high positions in government to undermine and paralyze government oversight all the while directing government moneys to big-money-backers like Halliburton, Bechtel and BlackwaterUSA. Bush uses his presidency for personal gain, never for the good of the people.
Whatever Bush has touched - Hearken Oil, the Texas Rangers, the US government -is cursed with his reverse Midas touch. Bush is devoid of ability, morality or egalitarianism. He is always obviously self-serving, because he believes Americans do not have the ability or will to stop him. So far, he’s right and will be until Americans take action.

How can American stand by, grow fat and runup their credit card debt while Bush destroys the greatest country in the history of mankind? Will people one day look back and say of us as they said of the Germans under Hitler, how could the Americans have let that happen to them? And will another madman curse his people as Hitler did his?

Is Giuliani the Best the Pathetic Republicans Can Do?

Giuliani is the best we can do? Cross-dressing, thrice-married Rudy Giuliani? The guy with the 'dream team' of consultants that includes David Vitter, a family-values, prostitute-visiting former New Orleans Congressman, and Thomas Ravenel, a cocaine-dealing, South Carolina ex-state treasurer? The same dream team that includes a suspended Catholic priest who also was the lawyer for a pedophile sex-ring? Priest and lawyer Alan J. Placa annulled Giuliani’s first marriage, baptized two of Rudy’s kids and was even the officiant at Rudy’s mom's funeral. Both Placa and Guiliani dated Regina Peruggi, Rudi's most recent wife. In 1982, Placa came up with a way to cancel Rudy's existing 14-year marriage. Since Peruggi and Giuliani were cousins, Placa decided they should have obtained a special dispensation from the church before marrying. This was ironic, because it was Placa who advised the couple before their wedding that they didn't need special dispensation. Placa was finally outed in 2002 in Newsday by victims as a member of a Catholic priest pedophile sex ring that posed as a 'counseling house.' Multi-million-dollar lawsuits were filed, criminal investigations began, and Placa was suspended from the church. Giuliani immediately hired Placa, and Placa has been on Rudy's payroll for six years. You’ve got to hand it to drag-queen Julie Annie - as one of the creepiest guys around, he still manages to surround himself with immoral monsters, crooks and liars. Take high school dropout Bernard Kerick, dubbed the "Baghdad Terminator," (whom President Bush nominated for Homeland Security Secretary, until it was revealed he had not paid taxes for his illegal aliens). Kerick has been indicted for bribes, tax evasion and mob connections as New York police commissioner, and it's also revealed he had simultaneous extramarital affairs with two women - one of whom is writing a book about it. With all that nasty mess, now we have to deal with a sanctimonious pedophile ex-priest? No, not Giuliani. I've had enough. The GOP needs to clean up its tarnished morality - not elect more crooks, liars and perverts. The Party of Fear is creating its own monsters and becoming the Party to Fear.

The Great Hypocrite's Greatest Hypocrisy

Bush chastising Musharraf for suspending democracy and installing martial law in Pakistan is the greatest hypocrisy of the Great Hypocrite. How can this man look at himself in the mirror and, most significantly, how can Americans sit - fat, happy, and inert - while he dismantles everything that has made America the country that we were before the Great Hypocrite stole two elections? When will Americans stand up, do something and defend America? Are Americans not shocked, shocked to find out the destruction of the American Way is going on here, all the while being handed a dictatorship by the Great Hypocrite?

GOP Suicide While Wide Awake

We've been hearing for over a decade from conservatives that liberalism is the source of everything wrong with America. It seems at times that attacking liberals as "evil" is the entire raison d'etre of the whole conservative movement. Nearly everyone recognizes however, that racism is one of the truly foul and wrong things about America. While the Democratic Party was for years the primary home of ex-Confederate white supremacists, most people - especially minorities - are fully aware that this all changed in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to the Republican's so-called "Southern Strategy." Republicans under Richard Nixon decided to embrace the very same voting white-power racists that the Democrats had just purged, and the Southern Strategy was born. Nixon used racist code phrases. Reagan used a symbolic trip to the murder site of three Mississippi civil rights workers to drop one of Nixon’s code phrases, "states rights," as he warned of fictitious unwed inner-city Negro welfare queens. The Southern Strategy worked, and so it was accepted by all the major GOP players. But now, America's increasing ethnic diversity is tearing the GOP apart. While Ken Melhman apologizes for the Southern Strategy, the people who the GOP has told for generations that non-whites are the cause of all their problems, are demanding that the Congress and the President act as if it were true. So the GOP is stuck pushing punitive anti-immigrant bills, GOP politicians are preparing to run on an anti-immigrant platform, GOP candidates snub non-white associations, and the angry, frightened white base is demanding its pound of flesh in the form of a militarized Mexican border and all-out war against the brown hordes. Considering the rapidly-changing demographics of America, this is political suicide. Many on the right still believe people of color are the enemy, and they intend to make sure the GOP supports their war.It is hard to stop dancing with the devil when he has helped you win so many elections. Meanwhile, the Democrats are laughing all the way to a new majority. Western and southern states are up for grabs, and the Republican Southern Strategy is practically gift-wrapping them for delivery to the Democratic Party.
